Crafting and cookies go hand in hand! The Silhouette Cameo or a similar machine like a Cricut can be super useful for cookie decorating!
My model is pretty old and I am sure the new machines can do some fancy new things but this does the trick for me! So let’s get started, here are my favorite uses when it comes to cookie decorating:
Icing Stencils
I LOVE to use my Silhouette to cut stencils for complex designs.
The process is pretty simple:
- Create a design on my Silhouette program
- Make sure the design has think enough lines, if the lines are too thin, the icing will not stick well
- Cut onto stencil paper
- Apply a large glob of medium consistency royal icing over the stencil
- Use a scraping tool to smooth the icing over the stencil
- Lift the stencil and admire your beautiful cookie!
Below are a few examples of cookies made with a stencil and this technique!
Each of these cookies utilized a stencil to a certain degree. The first cookie is one of my favorites. I made this for a friends wedding anniversary and I used a picture from her wedding day to make the stencil look like them! I loved how personal I was able to make the cookies and it was so much fun to create! The second picture utilized a stencil for the lace look behind the ring. Lastly, the third cookie was a stencil I made to match a company’s logo to make some cookies that they used for marketing!
Airbrush Stencils
The process of creating the stencil is very similar here but the use for cookies is unique! The stencil can have much thinner lines when it is being used for airbrushing. Instead of scraping icing over a stencil, I used an airbrush to leave a design on a pre-iced cookie. Below is an example from a Christmas set. The gift packages were airbrushed to say “Merry Christmas”.
Packaging
Another great possibility with this machine is the ability to make cute tags. There is just one issue here… and that is that I have not gotten that far. I plan to utilize my Silhouette in the future to make some fun gift tags but you will need to stay tuned to see what I come up with.
Final Thoughts
I have loved using my Silhouette to make stencils and it is a life saver when I want to do something extra personalized! I can’t wait to explore more possibilities and will update this post as I do!
